Interim Ministry at Cambuslang Parish Church
As you may by now have heard, the Presbytery agreed to the request of the Kirk Session of our congregation to enter into a period of Interim Ministry. This specialist ministry is offered by the Church of Scotland in a variety of circumstances in order to assist congregations going through times of transition, in addressing any necessary issues, and in preparing towards getting permission to call a minister.
A presentation was made to the congregation in early June, and that congregational meeting voted in favour of agreeing to a period of Interim Ministry. Immediately following that vote, it was announced that the option already prepared should the congregation agree, was a 12 month fixed term Interim Ministry undertaken on a job share basis by Hilary McDougall and David Denniston. This proposal was met with enthusiastic acceptance.
Therefore, Hilary and David will begin work in this role on 9th August, and there will be a Service of Introduction on Thursday 14th August at 7.00pm within the sanctuary of Cambuslang Parish Church followed by refreshments and a chance to welcome Hilary and David to this changed role for both of them.
This development will allow David and Hilary to build on the work they had already begun with our Kirk Session in their previous capacities as Presbytery Congregational Facilitator and Locum Minister.
Both Hilary and David feel enthusiastic and excited about this new role, but they also acknowledge that this will be a year of hard work for us all, of challenges and changes, and of determined focus on agreed goals.
It is important that the congregation are aware that while both Hilary and David will of course be sharing in the conduct of worship and of preaching, as well as in appropriate pastoral responses, the main focus of their work will be focussed on addressing issues that will be identified, as well as agreed goals for Interim Ministry (some already identified and others to emerge through consultation with the congregation in due course).
The job share arrangement is such that Hilary will be Team Coordinator and will work 60% of the week while David will act as Moderator of the Kirk Session while working 40% of the week. The details of working days and days off will be made known to the congregation in due course. Apart for a few obvious occasions, such as Sunday worship, please do not expect to see both together at the same place or time! This job share arrangement is not ‘two for the price of one’! But it will mean that both Hilary and David can bring their different skills, aptitudes, and experience to bear on the task before us all, hopefully to the benefit of the congregation and its future.
Please welcome them both into this new role, and – above all – pray for them, and for the congregation, as we embark on this important, exciting, but challenging journey.
Yours in the service of Christ Jesus
Derek W. Hughes (Interim Moderator)

20 July ‘Let the children come!’
27 July ‘The Great Commandment’

10 August ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’

David’s Leave: Our Locum, David, will be on leave from Friday 4th July until Friday 11th July inclusive. From 4th to 8th matters of pastoral urgency can be referred to our Deacon, Karen Hamiton. From 9th to 11th July, contact can be made with our Interim Moderator, Derek Hughes.
Walking Group: Our next walk will take place on Saturday 5th July. The destination is Musselburgh and the leader of the walk will be Rev Leslie Milton. The walk is a 5.5 mile circular stroll heading towards Portobello. In the event that anyone wishes a shorter walk there are several points along the way where it will be possible to hop on a bus back to Musselburgh. Those interested in going should meet outside the Church at 8:30, travel will be in shared cars.
In addition to the prospect of a nice walk the walkers will be able to enjoy tea/coffee and scones before setting off for the walk as Leslie’s Church is having a coffee morning on the same day. Leslie would be happy to see anyone else who fancies a day out to Musselburgh after the Coffee Morning which is on from 10:00 till 12:00, he further suggests that they could then visit Luca’s ice cream shop and enjoy the many charms of Musselburgh High Street.
Holiday Club: Our holiday club was fully booked within hours of it going online. HELP NEEDED: What we REALLY need is people to help in various roles. If you can help, please speak to Karen Hamilton or Susan Young. We need to know this ASAP as if you are not Disclosed, we will need to do that quickly.
Play Bags: A few bags hanging in the vestibule are available for parents to use during services. You are welcome to take one to use with your child during the service. Please return it to the vestibule after the service.
The Prayer Tree is situated inside the welcome area, for anyone in the church and community who wishes to add a prayer to it. You can write your prayer on one of the supplied labels, and either put it on the tree or into the prayer box. The ministry team will look at the prayers regularly and pray for you.
‘Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you.’ (Jeremiah 29.12).
