Our Mission Statement:
We are a warm and welcoming church
who seek to help all people experience and share
the love and teachings of Jesus Christ
in our worship and community involvement.
We affirm the dignity of all people
through compassion and kindness.
Our offerings help support the mission and work of our church and we are grateful to all those who give financially Sunday by Sunday. Many people give by standing order but there is also the option to give via the offering plate in the vestibule area of the church, immediately before entering or leaving the sanctuary. You can pop your offering in the plate either before or after the service. Thank you!
CPC Singers: Following the success of the singing of Gaudete by the CPC singers before Christmas, we are looking to produce something similar for an upcoming service over summer. Rehearsals will run immediately after Sunday services, starting today. The rehearsals will last no longer than 30 minutes. All are welcome to join in – no singing experience or ability to read music is required.
Walking Group: Our next walk will take place on Saturday 6th June, our destination this time is the Pentland Hills. There will be a choice of two walks. For the more adventurous the route will take the walkers up to Turnhouse Hill then Carnethy Hill before dropping down to the top end of Loganlea reservoir where the return will be back along the reservoirs to the car park, a distance of just over 8 miles. The easier walk will be an out and back alongside the Glencourse and Loganlee reservoirs, again a distance of just over 8 miles. Both groups of walkers should meet up and return together. Those interested in going should meet outside the Church at 8:30 am, travel will be in shared cars.
Next Sunday – 7th June: On Sunday 7th June the Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated during Morning Worship. This will be the annual ‘All Age’ celebration of Communion, and the service will also include Profession of Faith and Confirmation as we welcome new members to our congregation.
Immediately following the service, the congregation will meet in order to elect a Nominating Committee for the forthcoming Vacancy.
The Kirk Session are asked to meet at 10am in order to agree to the admission of new members and also deal with some important matters related to the forthcoming vacancy. Elders, please meet at 10am in the Small Hall on Sunday 7th June.
Retiral Offering – Tabeetha School: At the Communion Service on Sunday 7th June, the retiring collection will be for the important and valuable work of Tabeetha School in Jaffa, Israel. Founded in 1863 and run by the Church of Scotland, children and young people of all faiths – Christian, Jewish and Muslim – are educated together in a spirit of peace and unity. Operating with limited state funding, ongoing financial support is always necessary. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.
Nominating Committee: Now that our congregation has had the right to call a new Minister restored, we will be proceeding to elect a Nominating Committee of 11 people. A meeting will take place on Sunday 7th June immediately following Morning Worship. The formal edict regarding this meeting will be read during worship this morning.
Communion and Afternoon Tea: You are invited to a Service of Holy Communion on Tuesday 16th June at 2pm followed by afternoon tea in the Large Hall. This service is open to all and arrangements will be made to provide an opportunity for those who might not otherwise be easily able to attend worship, to be welcomed and included for communion and fellowship. For catering purposes, it would be helpful if you would advise us if you were able to join us and also let us know if you require transport.
Plant Sale: The Fundraising Team would like to thank everyone who attended, helped and bought plants at their recent Plant Sale. Thanks are also due to Gouldings who supplied the plants. The final total raised for church funds was £3408.25.
Prayer Tree: The congregational Prayer Tree is available in the Welcome Area, along with tags on which names can be written of any for whom prayers are sought. Names on the Prayer Tree will normally be included by the Ministry Team in prayers offered in worship at the Sunday Service and Tuesday Service. It is the normal practice of the Ministry Team to include first names only to help preserve appropriate anonymity. If you place a prayer request on the Prayer Tree can you also please remove that tag when prayer is no longer required. Thank you.
Halls Convenor: please send any enquiries about hall bookings etc to our Halls Convenor Derek Burns: derekburnscpc@gmail.com
