Our Mission Statement:
We are a warm and welcoming church
who seek to help all people experience and share
the love and teachings of Jesus Christ
in our worship and community involvement.
We affirm the dignity of all people
through compassion and kindness.
Our offerings help support the mission and work of our church and we are grateful to all those who give financially Sunday by Sunday. Many people give by standing order but there is also the option to give via the offering plate in the vestibule area of the church, immediately before entering or leaving the sanctuary. You can pop your offering in the plate either before or after the service. Thank you!
The Girls’ Brigade will be hosting their annual Parents’ and Friends Evening on Monday 18th May in the large hall at 7 pm. We extend a warm welcome to family and friends.
Walking Group: Good news, the lighter nights are here and it’s now time for our short season of evening walks. The first of these will take place on Tuesday 19th May. The walk is a 3.25 mile stroll round some quiet country roads at Auldhouse. Trainers will be fine for this walk, those interested in going should meet outside the Church at 6:30 pm. Travel to Auldhouse will be in shared cars.
Sunday 24th May – Congregational Group Photo: We are planning to take a group photo of the congregation after the service on Sunday 24th May. This is a change from the previously intimated date of 17th May! The photo will appear in the Parish Profile which is being compiled in preparation for the vacancy. Don’t be camera shy! We would like to include as many members of the congregation as possible.
Kirk Session: Elders please note that the next Kirk Sessionmeeting will be held on Tuesday 26th May at 7.30 in the Morriston Room.
Pentecost Sunday (24th May): We celebrate Pentecost on Sunday 24th May, when we will remember the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first disciples with the sound of a mighty wind, and the signs of flames of fire. To help mark this Sunday and make it special, the congregation are invited to come dressed in flame colours (eg red, yellow, orange). The brightness of these ‘flame’ colours will help us remember the tongues of fire that appeared on the Day of Pentecost, and add to our congregational celebration of this important festival. Additionally, if any of you can speak a language other than English and would be willing to share a short reading in that language in the course of our Pentecost service, then please say to either Hilary or David.
Bible Blethers: We shall meet on Wednesday 27th May, 10th & 24th June at 10.ooam in the Morriston Room. Anyone wishing to join us will be made most welcome.
Flower Power: The theme of the Summer services this year, is ‘Gardens of the Bible’. We will be decorating our worship space with flowers and garlands and are looking for any artificial flowers [preferably not plastic] which you might have at home and which are no longer in use. If you are happy to donate these, please let Hilary know. Thank you!
Electoral Register: In advance of the forthcoming vacancy, an ‘Electoral Register’ is being drawn up. This register will consist of all those whose names are on our Congregational ‘Communion Roll’ along with those who are listed on the roll of ‘Adherents’.
If you are a regular attender at Cambuslang Parsh Church, but not a ‘member’, and your name is not on the list of adherents (or if you are not sure whether or not it is) and you would wish your name to be on the ‘Electoral Register’, then please fill in the form on the back page of this morning’s order of service, and hand it in as you leave the service this morning.
Please note that you will not be eligible to vote for a new Minister if your name does not appear on the Electoral Register.
Prayer Tree: The congregational Prayer Tree is available in the Welcome Area, along with tags on which names can be written of any for whom prayers are sought. Names on the Prayer Tree will normally be included by the Ministry Team in prayers offered in worship at the Sunday Service and Tuesday Service. It is the normal practice of the Ministry Team to include first names only to help preserve appropriate anonymity. If you place a prayer request on the Prayer Tree can you also please remove that tag when prayer is no longer required. Thank you.
The recently postponed ‘Discovery Group’ has now resumed.
The new dates for these meetings (lasting about 1 hour or so) will be at 7pm on Thursdays 21, and 28 May, in the Morriston Room.
The Discovery Group is designed for those interested in exploring the basics of the faith, or considering baptism, confirmation, or ‘church membership’, or wanting to discover more about God and the Christian Life, or wanting to ‘refresh’ what they believe, or if you are simply a bit curious about the Christian Faith and following Jesus.
Anyone interested in attending can find out more from David.
Halls Convenor: please send any enquiries about hall bookings etc to our Halls Convenor Derek Burns: derekburnscpc@gmail.com
Ohna Robertson will be delighted to receive your announcements for inclusion in the Order of Service by Wednesday at 12 noon: ohna.robertson@ntlworld.com
