VACANCY BUSINESS
Locum: At its meeting on Tuesday 21st July, the Kirk Session approved the appointment of Rev Mike Gargrave as Locum for the period of vacancy. Mike is a recently retired minister with experience of parish ministry in 2 congregations in the Presbytery. Mike will lead worship each Sunday and provide pastoral care and funeral cover, initially for 1 day per week, with the possibility of increasing to 2 days per week if required.
Pastoral Co-ordinator: At the conclusion of Interim Ministry and during the vacancy, a Pastoral Co-ordinator will be in place to ensure that information about members of the church family who are ill or in hospital is gathered and shared with the Locum Minister and appropriate elder. The Kirk Session has agreed that this position will be filled by Janet Stewart. Janet’s contact details can be found alongside the contact details for the Ministry Team at the end of the order of service.
Celebration Book Co-ordinator: At the conclusion of Interim Ministry and for the 16th, 23rd, 30th August and 6th September while we have pulpit supply, Tony Neeson has agreed to check the Celebrations Book for details and to lead the ‘Celebrations and News’ part of our services. Our new Locum will be leading worship from the 13th September. If you have news or pictures to share on screen or in the book, can you please let Tony know.
Interim Moderator: The Presbytery has appointed Rev David Slater, minister of Gartcosh linked with Glenboig as the Interim Moderator of Cambuslang Parish Church during the period of vacancy. Dave [as he is known] will be ‘de facto’ minister of the congregation and will moderate the Kirk Session, ensure that governance is functioning well and will liaise with the Session Clerk team and with our Locum Rev Mike Gargrave and Pastoral Co-ordinator, Janet Stewart, to ensure all pastoral matters, including funerals, are covered. Please note that Dave is a full-time minister of his own two congregations so will not be in Cambuslang Parish Church on a regular basis. Dave’s contact details are at the end of the order of service.
Pulpit Supply: The following ministers will be providing pulpit supply until our Locum begins work with us:
30th August – Rev Dr Graham Blount and Rev Sheila Blount. Graham and Sheila were our Locum Ministers during the last vacancy.
6th September – Rev Dr Jane Denniston. Jane is well known to us and we are delighted she is able to lead us in worship and Holy Communion.

Our mission statement:
We are a warm and welcoming church
who seek to help all people experience and share
the love and teachings of Jesus Christ
in our worship and community involvement.
We affirm the dignity of all people
through compassion and kindness.
Our offerings help support the mission and work of our church and we are grateful to all those who give financially Sunday by Sunday. Many people give by standing order but there is also the option to give via the offering plate in the vestibule area of the church, immediately before entering or leaving the sanctuary. You can pop your offering in the plate either before or after the service. Thank you!
COUNT TEAM: The count team will soon be short of one member. It’s not an onerous task just once every 8 weeks & takes about 1-2 hours at the church. No count experience needed just a willingness to help this friendly team. Money has to go the Bank Hub or the Post Office. If interested, please speak to our treasurer Colin Fell or Finance Team secretary Jeanette Alexander.
Kirk Session: Elders please note that the next Kirk Sessionmeeting will be held on Tuesday 25th August at 7.30 in the Morriston Room.
Coffee & Chat: Every Tuesday at 11.15am throughout July and August, coffee, tea and baking will be available in the Welcome Area. We are hoping this will become a welcome social gathering while our groups and organisations are on holiday. Hope to see you there.
Congregational Action Plan Survey: As of 2026 every Church of Scotland congregation has to have a 5-year action plan. The initial plan for CPC was submitted earlier this year, as we required to have it in place before being given permission to call a minister.
To help Kirk Session update the plan for 2027, we are asking members of the congregation to complete a congregational survey form, and give us your personal view of our church worship and life. We would appreciate if you could take the time to answer the questions, add any comments you wish, and leave the completed form in the box in the welcome area. A copy of the current action plan is also available in the welcome area.
Close Knit Group will meet in the large hall on Thursday 3rd September from 1:30 – 3:00pm. All are welcome. Bring whatever craft you are working on, join in with some projects for the community or learn from others. If you don’t craft just come along for a blether, fun and friendship. There will be tea, coffee and home baking.
Girl’s Brigade will start back on Monday 7th September at 6:30 pm in Cambuslang Parish Church Halls. We extend a warm welcome to girls from Primary 1 to S6 for crafts, games, badge work and most of all, lots of fun.
Rutherglen Community Carers Coffee Morning & Showcase at Rutherglen United Reformed Church. Why not come along on Saturday 19th September, 10am – 12 noon and enjoy some delicious refreshments. There will also be an opportunity to see a display of artwork and woodwork produced by some of the groups run by the Carers as well as view our ‘Testimony Board’ – which will highlight the wonderful work undertaken by the one-to-one respite staff. There will be an opportunity for anyone who so wishes to add their testimonies to the display.
Prayer Tree: The congregational Prayer Tree is available in the Welcome Area, along with tags on which names can be written of any for whom prayers are sought. Names on the Prayer Tree will normally be included by the Ministry Team in prayers offered in worship at the Sunday Service and Tuesday Service. It is the normal practice of the Ministry Team to include first names only to help preserve appropriate anonymity.
If you place a prayer request on the Prayer Tree can you also please remove that tag when prayer is no longer required. Thank you.
