Celebrating the Day of Pentecost

HYMN: CH4 584 Like fireworks in the night

‘The Upper Room’                                                 Graham Macgregor

As we worship God this day

may God fill us with the Spirit.

As we listen to God’s word

may God fill us with the Spirit.

As we pray for God’s refreshing

may God fill us with the Spirit.

HYMN: CH4 124 Praise to the Lord

HYMN:                 As the wind song

As the wind song through the trees,

as the stirring of the breeze,

so it is with the Spirit of God,

as the heart made strangely warm,

as the voice within the storm,

so it is with the Spirit of God.

Never seen, ever known

where this wind has blown

bringing life, bringing power to the world,

as the dancing tongues of fire,

as the soul’s most deep desire,

so it is with the Spirit of God.

As the rainbow after rain,

as the hope that’s born again,

so it is with the Spirit of God,

as the green in the spring,

as a kite on a string,

so it is with the Spirit of God.

Making worlds that are new,

making peace come true,

bringing gifts, bringing love to the world,

as the rising of the yeast,

as the wine at the feast,

so it is with the Spirit of God.

Our mission statement:

We are a warm and welcoming church

who seek to help all people experience and share

the love and teachings of Jesus Christ

in our worship and community involvement.

We affirm the dignity of all people

through compassion and kindness.

Our offerings help support the mission and work of our church and we are grateful to all those who give financially Sunday by Sunday. Many people give by standing order but there is also the option to give via the offering plate in the vestibule area of the church, immediately before entering or leaving the sanctuary. You can pop your offering in the plate either before or after the service. Thank you!

Sunday 24th May – Congregational Group Photo: We are planning to take a group photo of the congregation after the service today. The photo will appear in the Parish Profile which is being compiled in preparation for the vacancy. Don’t be camera shy! We would like to include as many members of the congregation as possible.

Kirk Session: Elders, please note that the next Kirk Sessionmeeting will be held on Tuesday 26th May at 7.30 in the Morriston Room.

Bible Blethers: We shall meet on Wednesday 27th May, 10th & 24th June at 10.00am in the Morriston Room. Anyone wishing to join us will be made most welcome.

CPC Singers: Following the success of the singing of Gaudete by the CPC singers before Christmas, we are looking to produce something similar for an upcoming service over summer. Rehearsals will run immediately after Sunday services, starting on Sunday 31st of May (1 week today). The rehearsals will last no longer than 30 minutes. All are welcome to join in – no singing experience or ability to read music is required.

Retiral Offering – Tabeetha School: At the Communion Service on Sunday 7th June, the retiring collection will be for the important and valuable work of Tabeetha School in Jaffa, Israel. Founded in 1863 and run by the Church of Scotland, children and young people of all faiths – Christian, Jewish and Muslim – are educated together in a spirit of peace and unity. Operating with limited state funding, ongoing financial support is always necessary. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.

Nominating Committee: Now that our congregation has had the right to call a new Minister restored, we will be proceeding to elect a Nominating Committee of 11 people. A meeting will take place on Sunday 7th June immediately following Morning Worship. The formal edict regarding this meeting will be read during worship this morning.

Flower Power: The theme of the Summer services this year, is ‘Gardens of the Bible’. We will be decorating our worship space with flowers and garlands and are looking for any artificial flowers [preferably not plastic] which you might have at home and which are no longer in use. If you are happy to donate these, please let Hilary know. Thank you!

As part of the Church Spring Clean Week, the Hospitality and Pastoral Care Team has carried out a deep clean of the kitchen which included clearing out cupboards.  We have found several aprons and beautifully embroidered tablecloths which are no longer needed. If you would like any of these, please see Fiona Brown after the service today, items not claimed will be given to a charity shop.

The recently postponed ‘Discovery Group’ has now resumed.

The last of these meetings (lasting about 1 hour or so) will be at 7pm on Thursday 28 May, in the Morriston Room.

The Discovery Group is designed for those interested in exploring the basics of the faith, or considering baptism, confirmation, or ‘church membership’, or wanting to discover more about God and the Christian Life, or wanting to ‘refresh’ what they believe, or if you are simply a bit curious about the Christian Faith and following Jesus.

Anyone interested in attending can find out more from David.

Prayer Tree: The congregational Prayer Tree is available in the Welcome Area, along with tags on which names can be written of any for whom prayers are sought. Names on the Prayer Tree will normally be included by the Ministry Team in prayers offered in worship at the Sunday Service and Tuesday Service. It is the normal practice of the Ministry Team to include first names only to help preserve appropriate anonymity. If you place a prayer request on the Prayer Tree can you also please remove that tag when prayer is no longer required. Thank you.

Halls Convenor: please send any enquiries about hall bookings etc to our Halls Convenor Derek Burns: derekburnscpc@gmail.com
