Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides

All the girls have all been working on various badges from the new programme. Recently the Rainbows have been enjoying the nice weather and spending time playing games and singing campfire songs outside. The Brownies took part in an activity called ‘Edible Architecture’, which involved designing towers and building them using fruit. The term will be concluded with a roller disco. In August, the Guides look forward to attending ‘Tartan Gig’ at SSE Hydro.

2nd Cambuslang Girls’ Brigade have had an extremely busy and successful year.  This year has had an increase in numbers, and we have 43 girls in our company with a waiting list for next year.  We currently have two trainee leaders, Holly and Rebecca who are working on their Gold training and one Brigadier, Rebecca Stewart, who was awarded her Brigadier Brooch and is ready to start her leadership training.

All sections have worked hard to achieve their badge work and as part this we had the pleasure of welcoming the Fire Fighters from Cambuslang Fire Station to teach the girls about Fire Safety and allow the girls to explore the Fire Engine and had a turn using the hose.  Our Service badge was to discover more about the charity ‘Poppy Scotland’, some of our girls sold poppies in the Church and we held a ‘Tea and Toast ‘evening raising more than £100 for this charity.  The girls also collected DVDs for the Paediatric Radiology Department at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, we delivered 3 large boxes and received a lovely letter to express their gratitude for our collection.

During December 45 girls attended the local Pantomime in the Cambuslang Institute, this was a fantastic show and the girls loved it.  Shortly after this, in January, we held a Scottish evening where girls learned poems and songs to perform and we enjoyed haggis, neeps and tatties.

We also had our annual Halloween and Christmas party and an additional party for the 125th birthday of the Girls’ Brigade, we enjoyed a quiz night, Domino’s pizza and birthday cake for dessert.

Our Brigadiers served tea and cake to guests at an afternoon tea held in the Church, the girls did a great job and we were very proud of them representing 2nd Cambuslang GB.

Some of our Juniors attended a competition in Glasgow on a very wet day, we didn’t come first but had great time looking for the clues around Glasgow City Centre.  Our Explorers also entered a dance competition and we were delighted to come third in this event. Some of girls also attended the Girls Brigade Gathering where they learned about the Bible through balloon modelling.

Finally, we attended our annual weekend camp to Lapwing Lodge with some members of the Boys Brigade. We had a fabulous time participating in a variety of outdoor events and lots of happy memories were created.

We would like to say thank you for all the support from parents and our Church family. We look forward to a well-earned rest, ready to start our new session on the first Monday in September.

Hi there, I registered my little girl for Rainbows last year just before her 5th birthday and whilst in lockdown. I haven’t heard anything since. I appreciate the challenges of the last year but just wondered what the current position is.
My daughters name is Lucy Frederick, DOB: 18.05.21

Kind regards

Paula Frederick
